Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Unveils Five New Stills

Three years after the release of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the titular demigod played by Logan Lerman is heading back to cinemas this summer, and he's bringing along a lot of friends - some old and some new.

With 2013 already starting to fly by - can you believe that it's April already? - USA Today has premiered five brand spanking new first look photos at the anticipated August release, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, directed by Thor Freudenthal. The first photo, seen above, shows Percy reuniting with Annabeth (played by the returning Alexandra Daddario), the daughter of Athena, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.

The Great Horror Campout Provides A First-Hand Slasher Movie Experience

There's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush you get from watching a scary movie, but I living through a slasher movie naturally sounds like an awful experience. Sure, you get the same kind of thrill that the cinematic experience provides, but getting hacked to death with a chainsaw and having a psycho play with your organs isn't exactly fun. But what if you could have all the thrills of a scary movie minus all of the actual dying thing? Well, that's exactly what the Great Horror Campout hopes to provide.

'Jane Got a Gun': Inside the Turmoil on Natalie Portman's Troubled Western

Director Lynne Ramsay abruptly quits, a revolving-door cast, 175 extras sent home -- why Portman's new movie faces problems as shooting begins.

When Natalie Portman showed up Monday for the first day of shooting on the New Mexico set of Jane Got a Gun, she was unaware of the turmoil going on behind the scenes of the indie Western. Director Lynne Ramsay had just dropped out after a three-day standoff with producer-financier Scott Steindorff, and Jude Law, who had been recruited only days earlier when star Michael Fassbender abruptly quit the movie, would also exit the project.

Judge Rules That Warner Bros. Owns Superman

The legal war for the rights to Superman has been raging for so long now, it’s hard to remember a time when it wasn’t. At one point, things looked incredibly dour for Warner Bros., DC Comics’ parent company, as a judge had awarded Jerry Siegel’s heirs the rights to the elements of Superman as created in Action Comics #1 (Krypton, the costume, Clark Kent, etc.), leaving Warners with elements created in subsequent comics (Lex Luthor, kryptonite, the all-important Cyborg Superman etc.).

More recently, however, things have been going Warner Bros.’ way, starting with a ruling in October from Judge Otis Wright that the heirs of Superman’s other creator, Joe Shuster, have no claim to Superman’s copyright. Apparently, Shuster’s sister struck an agreement in 1992 to forego any “past, present, or future claims against DC” if the comic book company would pay her $25k a year and cover her brother’s debts.

Post-Apocalyptic Adaptation ‘Divergent’ Casts Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Maggie Q & More

Young adult book-to-film adaptations are nothing new, but since The Hunger Games rocked the box office, the race to snag the next hot property seems more rabid than ever. We just got Warm Bodies and Beautiful Creatures, and still have The Host, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Ender’s Game, and more on the way in 2013, but thanks to solid source material and a cast that gets better each day, the 2014 adaptation of Veronica Roth’s Divergent is looking better and better.

The film will star Shailene Woodley (recently cast as Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2) as the lead character, Beatrice Prior, a teen living in a future world where the population is divided into five factions, each treasuring different values.

Tommy Lee Jones shines in WWII mystery

Tommy Lee Jones as General MacArthur? Yes, please!

The Oscar-winning actor co-stars with Matthew Fox in the World War II drama “Emperor,” an interesting historical mystery that may otherwise fly under your radar.

In the days following Japan’s surrender and the end of WWII, General MacArthur (Jones) took command of the occupied country while Emperor Hirohito (Takatarô Kataoka) lived under house arrest. MacArthur, under pressure from the president, must decide whether or not Hirohito is to be executed as a war criminal. MacArthur’s fear of having the emperor hanged is that the stability of the country could collapse, creating an advantage for the communists to take control, something the Allies did not want to happen.

Thanks to the Michigan Film Office, the plot synopsis for Michael Bay's "Transformers 4" was unveiled on Wednesday.
The story details -- involving "an ancient, powerful Transformer menace" and a group of scientists trying to harness the technological power from previous transforming aliens -- were slipped when announcing that the Paramount production was approved for a tax incentive to film in Detroit. "As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues."

Michael Clarke Duncan Remembered in His Final Role by Producer Jamie Kennedy

The cast of "A Resurrection" pays tribute to the late "big-hearted, sweet" actor who died in September.
Michael Clarke Duncan's co-stars remembered the late actor as "lovely," "sweet" and a "legend" at the Hollywood premiere of his final film, A Resurrection.

“He was a big-hearted, sweet man,” Jamie Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter at the event Tuesday night at ArcLight Cinemas.
Added Mischa Barton: “The nicest guy ... his energy on set was lovely. He was always joking around, and he made me comfortable."

Duncan plays the school principal in the horror film about a murdered student who rises from the dead to seek revenge against his killers. The actor, an Oscar nominee for The Green Mile, died in September at age 54 after previously being hospitalized for a myocardial infarction, from which he never fully recovered.

Rumor Patrol: Justin Timberlake as Daddy Warbucks in the ‘Annie’ Remake?

With a Christmas Day 2014 release date recently set for Sony’s remake of Annie, progress on the film’s production is heating up – with Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis cast a few weeks ago for the lead role that original choice Willow Smith outgrew. The film is being produced by Jay-Z, who released an updated arrangement of the musical’s famous song Hard Knock Life in 1999 (later covered by Dr. Evil and Mini-Me in Goldmember), with Will Smith co-producing through his company Overbrook Entertainment. Emma Thompson was selected to write the script for Smith and Jay-Z’s remake in 2011.

Rob Thomas Offers Extensive Veronica Mars Movie Details

Following last week's launch of what immediately proved to be one of the most successful Kickstarters to date, it became official: a Veronica Mars movie is on the way! Today, TVLine spoke with creator Rob Thomas about where the film picks up the story and exactly what Ms. Mars has been up to for the past few years.

Please be aware, the following does contain what could be considered spoilers.
As it turns out, the film actually jumps ahead of real time, setting the action around Mars' 10th high school reunion in Neptune. Since the series saw her graduating high school in 2006, the film should, theoretically, take place in 2016. That's likely because Thomas has a bright future for the character planned beyond this film and hints that, after this big screening outing, many more could follow (or that "Mars" could even return in series form).

Reese Witherspoon To Produce And Possibly Star In The Engagements

While dramas and thrillers have used multi-threaded interconnected narratives to tell their stories for decades, it wasn't always as well-mined a technique in romance films. But in the last decade the inter-woven romance has become popular, with films like Love Actually and He's Just Not That Into You as the stronger examples of that subset. And now it looks like another is on the way.

The 80-year-old life of a diamond engagement ring is the focus of The Engagements, the upcoming J. Courtney Sullivan novel that Deadline reports is in final negotiations to become Fox 2000’s next adaptation. It will be produced by Pacific Standard, the company owned by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea. While this is Witherspoon’s only role in the project for now, there is a good chance she’ll take a part in it.

Kristen Wiig to Reteam With Will Ferrell on Indie 'Welcome to Me'

Shira Piven ("Fully Loaded") is directing, while Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing.
Kristen Wiig is in talks to reteam with her Anchorman 2 cohorts Will Ferrell and Adam McKay on the indie comedy Welcome to Me.

The actress, who is shooting the McKay-helmed Anchorman: The Legend Continues opposite Ferrell, is eyeing the lead in the film that will be directed by McKay’s wife Shira Piven (Fully Loaded).
Eliot Laurence, a former staff writer on Oxygen’s The Big Gay Sketch Show, wrote the screenplay about a woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings on a cable access talk show about her life.

Edgar Wright’s ‘The World’s End’ Gets New Release Date; Arriving Two Months Earlier

Edgar Wright fans, rejoice: you no longer have to wait until fall this year to see the filmmaker’s latest picture, aptly titled The World’s End. Distributor Focus Features has decided to push the movie’s U.S. opening date up from October 25th to August 23rd, putting audiences two whole months closer to its theatrical run.

Though no rationale was offered, the studio’s announcement comes four months after principal photography on The World’s End wrapped last December. No longer in competition with Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 5, the move now puts Wright’s film up against Sony’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and Lionsgate’s You’re Next, both mid-to-low budget genre productions.

Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds Talk The Croods

The Stone Age meets the Modern Age as Neanderthal family The Croods attempt to acclimate themselves to the world outside their cave. The cautious leader of this caveman clan, Grug, is vocalized with intense hyper-vigilance by Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage, while his bodacious daughter Eep is played with gusto by Emma Stone. The boy that comes between father and daughter is called simply Guy, and he's voiced by everyone's favorite Green Lantern, Ryan Reynolds.

This unlikely trio shared the stage for a press conference in New York City where they talked about the hardships of a 2-to-3 hour workday and the occasional waterboarding tactics of animators.

‘Gulliver’s Travels’ Director in Talks for ‘Goosebumps’ Film

The Harry Potter and Twilight films have proven that young adult novels can lead to box office gold. Now it appears that the 1990s phenomenon that was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series is that much closer to becoming a big screen reality.

Last we heard, screenwriter Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Jack the Giant Slayer) was tapped to adapt Stine’s work for a theatrical release. Producer Neal H. Moritz has been developing the project since 2008, after securing the rights to dozens of Stine’s stories. According to a recent report, the project is finally moving forward.

Courtesy of Deadline, writer/director Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Shark Tale) is in negotiations with Sony Pictures to direct the Goosebumps film. His only live-action feature credit is the 2010 comedic take on Gulliver’s Travels starring Jack Black and Jason Segel, a film that was not very successful by any meaning of the word.

Universal Acquires Family Therapy for Producer Jason Bateman

Universal Pictures has acquired a comedy pitch from writer Jay Reiss (The Oranges) entitled Family Therapy for Jason Bateman to produce through his Aggregate Films company.

The story follows a dysfunctional family who hires a therapist to fix their issues on the eve of a big family wedding. It isn't known if Jason Bateman plans to star in the comedy as well, or if he will only serve as a producer.

Jason Bateman's Aggregate Films, which he runs out of the Universal lot with James Garavente, recently produced the hit comedy Identity Thief. The company is also producing Jason Bateman's directorial debut Bad Words.

Lindsay Lohan has yet another mugshot to add to her portfolio.

The troubled star, 26, posed for Santa Monica police cameras on Tuesday afternoon after turning herself in. The move came after Lohan pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges related to a June 2012 car crash.

Disney Re-Scales Pete's Dragon

The original Pete’s Dragon hit cinemas in 1977, and starred Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, Helen Reddy and Jim Dale, in the story of an orphaned lad (Sean Marshall) who arrives in a small town with his magic dragon, attempting to escape his abusive adoptive parents.

Joss Whedon's Reaction To Iron Man 3 Might Surprise You

One of the many perks of being Joss Whedon is that you get to see the latest Marvel movies weeks before the general public. And why not? As the director of the original The Avengers as well as its pending sequel, The Avengers 2, Whedon needs to know how the standalone movies in Marvel’s Phase Two will feed into his next ensemble adventure.

And that has led to the concerned response Whedon gave when he saw the final reel of Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. Marvel President Kevin Feige tells the mommy blog TwoKidsAndACoupon that when Whedon finally watched the sequel’s conclusion, he asked, “Now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?”

Ben Affleck Might Direct ‘Bunker Hill’ Adaptation For Warner Bros.

The 2013 Academy Awards may be over and done with, but that’s not stopping Ben Affleck from keeping busy or eyeing his next potential Oscar-caliber production. With a Best Picture win for Argo under his belt (read our review here), he’s already being courted to direct a screen version of Nathaniel Philbrick’s as-yet-unpublished novel, Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution for Warner Bros and Pearl Street Films.

According to Deadline, WB acquired the rights to adapt Philbrick’s book for Pearl Street – the production studio Affleck founded with longtime collaborator and friend Matt Damon – in a high-six-figure against seven-figure deal. At this time, Bunker Hill is only being treated as a potential directing gig for Affleck; he’s also allegedly going to pass the story on to Chris Terrio, his Argo screenwriter, a move that would fully solidify the film as a high-profile project.

'Olympus Has Fallen' Premiere Celebrates Antoine Fuqua's Action Thriller

The director recreated Washington D.C. in Louisiana for the film, which stars Gerard Butler.

Olympus Has Fallen, the action-thriller about a hostage situation at the White House, celebrated its red carpet premiere in Hollywood on Monday, March 18.

Stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Rick Yune attended the evening screening at ArcLight Cinemas followed by a lively party at Lure nightclub.

At the after party, Butler, who stars as a disgraced Secret Service agent who is tasked with saving the president after the White House is held hostage, held court in the main entrance way, talking to friends about the film. A security guard tried to gently encourage the group to move their gathering inside, but the group was completely enthralled with Butler’s stories.

Vinnie Jones Lined Up For Thriller Killer's List

After playing a string of outlandish badasses like the intimidating thug Big Chris in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, a gonzo soccer hooligan in the zany comedy Eurotrip, and the unstoppable Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand, British footballer-turned-leading man Vinnie Jones has been turning to more earnest drama of late. In January, he signed on to co-star in the World War I film The 34th Battalion, and now he's lined up for a gritty thriller called The Killer's List.

Deadline reports The Killer's List has Jones attached to play a widower and retired hitman whose forced to return to his killer craft once son is kidnapped. The script by Brian Vining kicks off with Jones' character receiving a cardboard box that contains a cell phone, demands that he murder five of his former associates, and the fingers of his young son. Yipes. With a plot point like that, we anticipate this thriller will be brutal.

David S. Goyer Signs on to Direct ‘Count of Monte Cristo’

David S. Goyer has had an impressive impact upon mainstream cinema in recent years. Not only did he co-write all three films in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, he also has sole writing credit for this summer’s most anticipated comic book movie, Man of Steel, and is also on the writing team for Legendary Films’ Godzilla remake.

His reputation as a director is a little lacking in comparison to his reputation as a writer, since he hasn’t directed a feature since the best-forgotten 2009 horror film The Unborn; however, Goyer’s recently been warming up to directing again with his new TV series, Da Vinci’s Demons, which premieres on Starz next month.

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Director Reveals Villain Jail Set Piece

If you’re not a hardcore comic book fan, you might not know that ol’ Spidey has something in common with Batman, in that both heroes have a place where their multitude of foes get incarcerated and subjected to psychiatric study.

Granted, Arkham Asylum from the Batman universe is more well-known (in part thanks to a successful video game franchise bearing the name) – but the “Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane” will apparently be getting a PR boost soon, thanks to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Admission Director Paul Weitz: 'If Tina Fey Wasn't Up For It, There Was No Point In Doing It'

It seems insane that Tina Fey and Paul Rudd have never worked together on a film before, given how important each of them has been to pretty much all the good comedy that's come along in the last decade. At long last, in this Friday's Admission, Fey and Rudd team up in a classic rom-com conflict-- Fey as a Princeton admissions officer struggling to hold on to her controlled life in this rarefied world, and Rudd as the crunchy do-gooder who's aiming to shake her up even more.

The mastermind who's finally united them is Paul Weitz, the director of dramedies like About A Boy and In Good Company that, like Admission, are about people trying to be good to each other, and often failing terribly. Weitz has had his own detours into broader stories (he started his career with American Pie and somehow got tangled up in Little Fockers), but he excels at the human-sized stories like Admission, which weave complicated narrative arcs and eschew easy happy endings in favor of something more bittersweet-- and real.

Director Jon Chu Wants Dolph Lundgren to Cameo in Masters of the Universe

Though there's no casting for the Masters of the Universe reboot, director Jon M. Chu is on the record as saying he wants Dolph Lundgren to cameo in the film (via Getty Images Entertainment).

“I don’t know if Dolph Lundgren is around or what he’s doing but, yeah, I think that could be some fun if we could find a way. I hope he still has the loin cloth and the long hair and everything.”

Lundgren played He-Man in the original 1987 live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe and has continued to remain a presence in action films since.

Shooting Locations Revealed for Godzilla and Transformers 4

Canada.com has revealed that the production for the remake of Godzilla has found a home and it's in the city of Nanaimo in British Columbia. Here are the details they've revealed:

Crews will stay in Nanaimo hotels for three days while they shoot the scenes downtown and Ladysmith area before they move onto Shawnigan Lake.

James Cameron Gives Avatar Sequels Update

It's crazy to think that Avatar opened in theaters more than three years ago, on December 18, 2009, but here we are. While it's been a while since we heard from James Cameron on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, Play Goes Strong (via Bleeding Cool) caught up with the filmmaker not long ago and asked him for a status update.

"I'm working on 'Avatar 2' and 'Avatar 3.' I was talking the other day with Peter Jackson and said, 'You had it easy dude. You had the books when you did the second and third 'Lord of the Rings.' I have to create my own books in my head and extract a script from it. I'm deep into it and I'm living in Pandora right now. There is that start up torque where you feel it's coming to you. Then you build up momentum. That's when it gets fun. The characters talk and it's writing itself. I'm almost there right now. It's building fast," said Cameron.

Ricky Gervais Returns as THE OFFICE Boss David Brent for 10-Minute Special and Reggae Music Video “Equality Street”

The Office left David Brent in an optimistic place when it signed off in 2003 with the Christmas special.  He had a promising date, stuck up for himself with Finchy, and made the office staff laugh.  Ricky Gervais brought back the character for a ten-minute special for Comic Relief on Friday, and as suits Gervais’ M.O., all hope is gone and Brent is lonelier than ever.

Brent sells cleaning products now, but is still pursuing his true passion, music.  He is excited about his new protege, rapper Dom Johnson, and especially proud to have a black “friend.”  Dom says the partnership clicked when Brent agreed to “support my studio time financially,” but Brent still manages to rope him into filming a black-and-white music video for his painful political reggae song “Equality Street.”  The special is ultimately sad, extremely uncomfortable, and yes, pretty funny.  Watch it after the jump.

Fans of E.L. James' steamy romance series Fifty Shades of Grey have been eagerly awaiting official word on casting for Focus Features and Universal's anticipated feature adaptation. Who will play the Anastasia Steele in the film? Judging by the tone of her recent Tweet on the subject, it won't be Emma Watson. Via Twitter, the Harry Potter star questioned people who actually thought she was going to do the movie...

'Spring Breakers' Scores Top Limited Opening of 2013, But Big Challenge Lies Ahead

Harmony Korine's dark, hedonistic comedy expands nationwide March 22; the indie film stars James Franco, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens.

When upstart distribution outfit A24 decided to open the R-rated Spring Breakers in only three theaters in New York and Los Angeles -- the standard practice for an arthouse title -- it knew it was taking a risk.

From renegade filmmaker and artist Harmony Korine, the dark, hedonistic comedy is far from being a typical specialty title, considering its younger-skewing subject matter and commercially appealing cast, led by James Franco and Disney-raised stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, as well as Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars). Rachel Korine, the director's wife, rounds out the cast.

Weekend Box Office: Nothing Magical About Burt Wonderstone

Neither The Call nor The Incredible Burt Wonderstone saw much love from critics and audiences didn't offer much more support at the box office this weekend.

Both movies settled well behind Oz The Great and Powerful which held strong to the number one spot with $42 million. Oz soared past Identity Thief's as the highest grossing domestic movie of the year so far. It may not get to hold that title long, with a few potential blockbusters set to hit theaters in April, but most certainly having to surrender the title when Iron Man 3 arrives on May 3rd.

The Call took second place with $17 million, easily topping the less than magical Wonderstone and its unimpressive $10 million number three spot. The opening is one of the worst for Steve Carrell and a painfully low follow up to last year's financially mediocre Hope Springs and disappointing Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.
