The Harry Potter and Twilight films have proven that young adult novels can lead to box office gold. Now it appears that the 1990s phenomenon that was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series is that much closer to becoming a big screen reality.
Last we heard, screenwriter Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Jack the Giant Slayer) was tapped to adapt Stine’s work for a theatrical release. Producer Neal H. Moritz has been developing the project since 2008, after securing the rights to dozens of Stine’s stories. According to a recent report, the project is finally moving forward.
Courtesy of Deadline, writer/director Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Shark Tale) is in negotiations with Sony Pictures to direct the Goosebumps film. His only live-action feature credit is the 2010 comedic take on Gulliver’s Travels starring Jack Black and Jason Segel, a film that was not very successful by any meaning of the word.
